Battery replacement on alpha keypads requires careful handling of delicate plastic components. The process involves locating specific alignment markers and using proper unlocking techniques.
Unlocking the Keypad
The keypad features lock and unlock icons on both left and right sides with corresponding index lines for alignment. A rectangular lock release hole sits along the bottom edge. To open:
- Insert a small slot screwdriver into the release hole
- Pry toward you to disengage the locking tab
- While maintaining pressure, slide the front faceplate upward
- Continue until side index markers align with unlock icons on both sides
- Separate the front face from the back plate to access batteries
The red tamper LED illuminates when the keypad is open.
Reassembly Instructions
- Align unlock icons with index lines on both sides
- Slide the front face downward until index lines meet lock icons
- The red tamper LED should extinguish once closed
Installation Recommendations
Avoid wall-mounted screws. Instead, use two Velcro strips on each side of the keypad for easier repositioning during range testing. Do not place Velcro on the backplate center — this causes permanent tamper switch damage due to backplate flexing when removed.
